The time has come. I need to take a step back. I need to regroup. I need to focus.
As many of you know, I am currently in my second year of my doctoral studies. I only have two years to write my comprehensive exams before I can move onto my research and the deadline is fast approaching. Well, I have until August but really time is flying by. With my supervisor set to return in a few short months the pressure is slightly higher than it has been. So, I have decided that I am going to attempt my best to press pause. It is time to…
I do not plan to stop writing, that would be exactly the opposite of my goal to support others and that of writing a dissertation. I will, for the next couple weeks (just 2), walk around with a notebook and pen (instead of my laptop and iPad) and continue to write the historical way. I find I think better, my hand and mind are working at the same pass, and that I feel less of a desire to browse through social media when writing by pen and paper.
It really just means that in a few weeks time you will be bombarded all at once with the various thoughts I have held on paper – it will be sure to entertain you for days, if you stick around that long. If you feel like you are really missing out and want to experience what I may be experiencing, here are a few books I am planning to read, concepts I plan to ponder over, and activities I plan to partake in:
My Age of Anxiety by S. Stossel
All About the Girl: Culture, Power, and Identity edited by A. Harris
Walking on the Water: Women Talk About Spirituality edited by J. Garcia & S. Maitland
Feminism: Issues & Arguments by J.M. Saul
Bodies That Matter by J. Butler
The Essence of Sufism by J. Baldock
Sufism In Action: Achievement, Inspiration and Integrity in a Tough World by Dr. H.J. Witteveen
Shi’a Islam: From Religion to Revolution by H. Halm
Gender, Religion, Culture, Feminism, Bodies, Sufism (From the books above)
Dance as a narrative
Meditation as a learning process
Movement as an experience
Active, ritual, routined practices
Grounding yet provoking practices
How to write my narrative(s)
How to stop myself from checking Facebook, Instagram, my Blog, reading your blogs, and so forth.
Hiking (or being in nature)
Snowshoeing (on Mt Seymour Feb 20th if you want to join me!)
Thinking, Reading, and Writing
Or, and lets not forget my job…teaching
With nothing but lots to do, I say my see you laters for just a short little while. I hope you stick around and wait for my return.
While I am away enjoy being (whatever that means to you), find other bloggers to follow, be happy, and as Ellen DeGeneres would say – Be Kind To One Another!
